It has been revealed that President Emmerson Mnangagwa canceled a planned meeting with Zimbabweans based in the United Kingdom at the last minute.
The cancellation came after Mnangagwa attended King Charles III’s coronation in London on May 6, 2023.
According to a letter dated May 3, 2023, Mnangagwa had been invited to the Zimbabwe Embassy in London to meet with the diaspora community after the coronation.
The president was set to address the community on the economic and political developments in the country.
However, he did not attend the meeting, and instead, his delegation met with the diaspora supporters. Mnangagwa had also been scheduled to address Zanu PF supporters in Luton during his visit to the UK.
The meeting had been planned at a hotel along the road to Heathrow Airport to avoid demonstrators who were planning to picket the meeting.
Mnangagwa’s spokesperson cited his tight schedule, adding that the president only went to the UK for the coronation, and other engagements were incidental.
