The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has refused to meet up with teachers’ unions to discuss the salaries of the educators as requested this
In a letter to the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe Secretary General Raymond Majongwe CSC said, “The Commission acknowledges the receipt of your minute dates 13 February 2019, contents of which have been noted.
“Please be advised that the Commission will not b3e meeting any Unions/Associations directly. You are therefore advised to forward your issues to the National Joint Negotiation Council established in terms of SI 141 of 1997, through the Apex Council.”
In a letter that was sent to the Commission on February 13, the Unions reminded the government of a meeting that they had agreed to hold during their last meeting.
“We write to request the said meeting which aims to discuss and resolve on sector-specific demands and other issues affecting the sector.
“We would highly appreciate if you can revert to us on the appropriate date and time for the meeting.”
Commenting on the CSC correspondence Majongwe said, “When we suspended the strike it was on the understanding that government was to engage the Education Sector Unions separately. Everyone saw the commitment on ZTV. As usual, the government has decided to engage their darlings at Apex. Bad faith as usual.”
